Repost: The bunkering port of Zhoushan has embarked on projects to explore the use of technologies for enhancing marine refuelling operations, according to Zhoushan News.
Cui Yiling, Director of Port Affairs Administration of Zhoushan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone Management Committee, said these studies include the incorporation of 5G technologies and an intelligent mass flowmeter (MFM) system coupled with e-BDN functionalities.
The developments are focused in the direction of implementing an “add and go” bunkering system for receiving ships at Zhoushan for increased efficiency, the spokesperson points out.
To date, the annual bonded bunker sales volume at Zhoushan has grown 45% on year to exceed 4.72 million metric tonnes in 2020.
The increase has been partly attributed to the implementation of a “Zhoushan Bonded Marine Fuel Oil Dispatching System” in 2019; the system links all of Zhoushan’s bonded bunker tankers under a central network.
As such, staff in the bonded marine fuel oil dispatch centre of the Zhoushan Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone have been able to remotely monitor and manage the operation of bonded bunker tankers delivering marine fuel to receiving vessels at the port and nearby shipyards.
Implementation of the system has resulted in the shortening of reporting times by six hours, with a 20% efficiency gain in anchorage utilisation.
This year, the system is being enhanced through the addition of several monitoring points for oil depots and terminals.
At present, a 2.0 version of the bonded marine fuel oil dispatching system is also being developed. It will explore multiple service scenarios covering coordination between shipowners, oil storage companies, and fuel supply agency companies.
