NYK has achieved the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI): The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) Green Ship Programme has recognised NYK Group for achieving the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) certification.
Three recognised vessels from NYK Group were announced during a webinar hosted by MPA on November 3.
They are namely, two LNG Vessels Tangguh Batur, and Tangguh Towuti, respectively and an oil/chemical tanker, Takarao Su – all owned by NBAsia.
NYK Group is one of the companies to address the current environmental issues to be a major challenge for the company. It gets involved in initiatives such as the Green Ship Programme to achieve environmental requirements.
“Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalization and Green” is a medium-term management plan that the NYK Group has leveraged to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into its business strategies. It pursues to boost its corporate value and contribute to society’s sustainable development through relevant business activities.
Starting from April 2018 to the next five years, the plan mentioned states NYK Group’s corporate vision and management approach formulated to achieve sustainable growth by adapting to the fast and efficient ever-changing business environment.
The plan decreases the effects of market volatility, and further remodifies its business portfolio and improves the profitability of its secure stable-freight-rate business to endure the uncertainties of the testing times. According to NYK group, it will take on activities that shift focus on two distinct keywords, “Digitalization” and “Green.” This will enable the transformation of the entire supply chain to become more environmentally sustainable and produce innovative values in the renewable energy industry – by combining NYK’s core competency with advanced elemental technologies in the market.
